Gold’s Gym, an international fitness franchise with more than 7 million locations operating across six continents, has announced it will shut all of its company-owned locations in the U.S. amidst the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, through March 31. This includes gyms in Texas, Oklahoma, St. Louis, and Carolina.
“This is not a business decision but a humanity decision,” said Adam Zeitsiff, Gold’s Gym CEO and president. “We want to protect our community and people of all ages by doing what we can to flatten the disease’s curve. To fight this virus, we have to stand firm with everyone who is working to contain the spread. We are truly stronger together.”
To help gym-goers still maintain an active lifestyle, Zeitsiff made the decision to offer free premium access to GOLD’S AMP, Gold’s Gym’s digital personal training app, though May 31, 2020. The app currently has over 600 indoor and outdoor workouts that users can follow along with, accompanied by audio and video guidance.
Privately owned franchise gyms within the Gold’s Gym network will make their own determinations on when and if they will close. System-wide, all locations have stepped up all sanitary procedures and practices to protect members from the ongoing health crisis.
