Founded in Berlin in 1989, German Donor Kebab (GDK) has become a sought after, tantalizing name on the lips of any adventurous London foodie. The brand, now based in Glasgow, Scotland, has seen immense growth these last two years – with 36 locations opening all over Europe and beyond. But this innovative kebab shop isn’t done just yet, as it sets its sights on yet another untapped, hungry market: Ireland.
In an exciting announcement, GDK shared the news that it would open a flagship Dublin restaurant in the coming months, which will create 25 new jobs in the capital. A further 40 franchise outlets are also planned for the future, to open all across Ireland.
Daniel Bunce, MD for the brand in the U.K. and, now, Ireland, said: “The appetite for our delicious gourmet kebabs and extensive range of sides in our existing restaurants confirmed to us that it is only right we continue to forge ahead our strong growth plans and bring GDK across Ireland.”
GDK already has a firm global footprint, with stores currently open in the U.K., Sweden, Dubai, Abu-Dhabi, Oman, and Bahrain. Further growth is already planned for Canada, where franchises have been signed in the Ontario and British Columbia provinces, and America, where 12 initial franchises have been agreed to open in Houston, Dallas, and Texas.
The brand will also strengthen its Middle Eastern presence, with a signed master franchise agreement leading to 100 locations for the region, over the next 10 years.
“Our Dublin opening will be just the beginning of our Irish journey,” continued Bunce, “which we hope will be the start of a fantastic relationship between GDK and our consumers in the city and throughout Ireland.”
