Five things we learned from attending Franchise Expo Paris 2021

Five things we learned from attending Franchise Expo Paris 2021

A stand-out showcase of franchising from the European continent and beyond.

This past week, Global Franchise exhibited at Franchise Expo Paris on stand W64, and we managed to meet many established brands and thought leaders from every corner of the franchise industry.

The show floor was quite literally buzzing with excitement, as thousands of industry professionals descended on Porte de Versailles for a four-day franchising extravaganza. And as one of the first international franchising events to occur since the pandemic began, anticipation for this staple of the franchising calendar was at a fever pitch.

Here are five things that our team learned from their time on the show floor:

Franchising is more alive than ever

The pandemic caused many businesses to slow down or even shutter entirely, which led to anxiety about the future of many individuals’ franchising careers. You wouldn’t know that by the attendance at Franchise Expo Paris, however; thousands of proactive and engaged attendees bustled from stand to stand, speaking with each and every franchise brand, consultancy, and supplier that they could.

We had many conversations at the Global Franchise stand with insightful professionals about the future of the industry, and what they saw as the main developments we’ll see throughout Europe and beyond. From social media unification to FDD adjustments, no stone was left unturned over the duration of the event!

The French sector is booming with emerging brands

While many attendees at Franchise Expo Paris were interested in speaking with international franchise concepts, it was enlightening to see just how many domestic French brands have taken the franchise business model and turned it into a successful driver for growth.

What this shows is that the French franchise industry is truly setting itself apart as a leader in Europe, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see many of the domestic brands on show at this year’s event join the international franchise community soon.

The franchise industry still knows how to put on a show

Long-time attendees to some of the biggest franchise shows will know that certain stands can be truly outstanding in terms of presentation and appeal. Some industry regulars may have assumed that the past year’s hiatus from international events would have caused some franchise brands to see a dip in their investment in these kinds of gatherings – but that couldn’t be further from the truth.

From entire restaurant build-outs, to cleverly designed one-on-one meeting points, each and every stand at Franchise Expo Paris showcased the ingenuity and creativity of the franchising space. If you’re ever looking for inspiration when it comes to marketing, look no further than these must-attend events.

The cannabis industry is rapidly developing

One sector that was surprisingly prolific at Franchise Expo Paris was the cannabis franchising sphere. Several brands offering cannabis retail opportunities or CBD-inspired concepts were on show, with knowledgeable founders and business leaders present at each to walk possible investors through the steps to ownership.

While complete legalization may still be quite some years off at an international level, cannabis has quite clearly taken the entrepreneurial world by storm.

The franchise model is exceptionally diverse

Many of the stands at Franchise Expo Paris were from familiar sectors that you may expect, such as food and beverage, fitness, or home services. What might come as a surprise, however, is the sheer variety on offer for investors wanting to enter the franchising landscape.

Who would’ve thought, for example, that an art gallery franchise could be as popular for investment as a children’s activity center? But the attendees don’t lie: each and every stand at Franchise Expo Paris was swarmed by interested investors. There has truly never been a better time to enter the industry.

This Friday and Saturday, we’re excited to be exhibiting at The International Franchise Show in London. Come and see us at stand 212 for a friendly chat, and make sure to pick up your free copy of Global Franchise magazine!
