There’s an opportunity for everyone at Franchise Expo South.”

Why Franchise?

The beauty of franchising is that “you have a company behind you with established systems in place,” says Jim Mastandrea, group show director at MFV Expositions, which produces franchising expos worldwide. According the International Franchise Association, the sponsors of Franchise Expo South, the number of franchise establishments in the United States is at an all-time high. Franchises employ about 7.6 million people and the number continues to climb. Personal services are the fastest growing segment. Examples are fitness, early childhood education, cleaning services, fast-casual dining and elder care. If you’re interested in any of these concepts, several are exhibiting at Franchise Expo South:

Plan Ahead

“You will be grateful that you attended the expo with a good plan,” says Portesy. “People often think they can stop by the expo and see it all in a matter of hours, but that’s just not possible. If you’re serious about buying a master license for a business that you want to develop in your country, or even if you’re just looking to buy one unit of a franchise to build in the United States, it takes time to get all the pertinent information. Fortunately, the expo does a great job of bringing everyone together under one roof for three days.”

Some suggestions:

Register at Registration is free when you use promo code GFMAG.
Set aside time to attend education programs. Under “Educational Programs” tab of the website, you’ll see the over 60 free seminars the expo offers, designed to teach you how and why franchising works. There are also programs geared toward business owners who are interested in franchising their business and for current franchise owners. Check out the paid, in-depth workshops if you’re looking to delve a little deeper. Workshops have limited seating, so be sure to register in advance to guarantee your seat.
If you’re looking for advice on how to finance your new venture, or general advice on small business development be sure to visit the “Small Business Answer Center” section of the expo floor. They’re you’ll find experts in the field of franchising who are happy to give you free advice.
In the “Supplier Section” you’ll find franchise attorneys, accountants, bankers, leasing agents and other professionals eager to help you make your business a success.

Search the exhibitor list by company, industry or by investment level. Schedule appointments in advance with the concepts that are of interest you. “That’s the most efficient way to attend an expo,” explains Portesy, who’s produced franchise expos for more than 25 years. “Set an appointment with the franchisor and they’ll set aside time to meet with you away from the hustle and bustle of the show floor, which can be noisy and distracting.”

“I think even if you’re a non-owner already, I think it’s a good opportunity to come and learn and explore and see what opportunities are out there. There’s quite a few questions you get answered by talking to these people directly at the booth as far as original investment fee, what size of the store requirements are, etcetera, so it’s good to kind of get that information ahead of time before you try to figure out what you really want to do.”

“This is the best way to come and see what there is. They are very open, each franchisor; you can learn so much about each and every business opportunity that is out there and get the information; learn their facts right from the beginning.”

“I want something I can pass on for the next generation. It’s really important to not only have your own, but to also be able to look out for who is beyond and behind you. With having four kids, setting that model to give them that idea that perhaps one day that they can not only run a business but also to be self-sufficient so they’re not wondering, what’s the next day or the possibility of jobs or opportunity to even create jobs. So that they can do a part of the American Dream to give jobs instead of always have to look for a job.”

Take the first step toward being in business for yourself, but not by yourself at Franchise Expo South.  Register today and make your dream of business ownership become reality.
